All Lacie pieces are handmade and designed by Alice Moser, 26, on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.
I started playing around with metals and stones towards the end of high school and fell in love with the whole process. After lots of trial and error and lots of time on Youtube (more so than usual), I started Lacie after finishing school and have spent every year since pretty much glued to my desk.
Everything I make is handcrafted in my studio in McCrae; each piece is individually cut, carved, forged, textured, sanded and polished.
All my metals are 100% recycled. My boxes are recyclable or better still compostable, and my post bags are soon to be compostable also!
I only use solid precious metal; solid sterling silver and solid yellow and rose golds.
I love to use Australian gemstones and always aim to support independent stone cutters rather than large scale companies. The most prominent stone in my work is the magical Boulder opal. A rare type of opal found only in QLD and i get almost all of my Boulder opals from a delightful husband and wife team of legends (and my friends) since they sold me my first stone in 2011.
All opals I use are solid opals, no doublets or triplets. Solid opals are tiny artworks produced by nature when rain water falls below the surface of the earth and collects tiny particles of silica along the way. This water collects in crevices/cracks/fossils and when the water evaporates the opal is what remains.
Doublets and triplets can be nice of course but aren’t the same product of nature and science and don’t have the same uniqueness.
Because all pieces are handmade from scratch, every piece is individual meaning your jewellery is always uniquely your own.
